Multimedia Installation/ Dance Daycation

On Sunday March 6, Dance/MetroDC and I are hosting a Dance Daycation during a day full of dance at INTERSECTIONS, A New America Arts Festival.  While people are entering and leaving the theater, there will be a virtual postcard installation showing looped footage of local dance companies and independent artists.  To participate, see below.   Scroll down here to March 6 to check out the five dance performances programmed throughout the day.  Click here to plan your visit to H street… food, transportation, etc.

Virtual Postcard Installation
An installation of laptops and DVD players displayed at eye level along the wall of the theater lobby.

Why: To celebrate the range and abundance of dance in the D.C. metro area, the day will act as a D.C. Dance Awards Nominations Party.  This presents an opportunity to display materials of local companies and independent artists.  Instead of the typical table of scattered postcards and brochures, this will be an installation of a wall lined with laptop computers at eye-level showing footage.  The installation theme will be “backstage” and the laptops will sit within scaffolding or another bare structure.  With this display of moving bodies, we will jolt the nominations casting for 2010/2011!

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I secure my spot?
email me by Thursday February 17.  Priority will be given to DancePassPRO holders.  Once you receive confirmation, you will be asked to drop off your charged laptop/DVD player + DVD of footage at the ATLAS Performing Arts Center between 11:00am and 1:30pm and then retrieve it at or before 9:30pm on March 6.  All participating artists’ names will be posted with the installation.

What is a Dance Daycation?
Dance/MetroDC will be organizing day trips for a small group to our neighboring cities and towns to see dance performances and get a feel for other dance scenes.   Look for trips to Baltimore, Richmond, Shepherdstown or others TBD.

Will there be security guarding the equipment?
The laptops will not be left unattended throughout the day.  We are looking into the terms of insurance at ATLAS Performing Arts Center.

Can I rent a DVD player instead of providing one?
If you are interested, email me.  We are looking into cost effective rental options.
