MT. RAINIER MD & WASHINGTON DC — The Field/DC announces two exciting opportunities to experience Fieldwork, an artist workshop that nurtures the creative process for artists of mixed disciplines.
On September 4th, experience Fieldwork as an audience member and enjoy an evening of works-in-progress at Joe’s Movement Emporium. This one-time-only, mid-week experience features Nancy Havlik, Michael Jantz Moon, May Kesler, Desiree M. Koontz-Nachtrieb, Kirsty Little, Patrick Smith, Katie Sopoci Drake, Peter Sprung, Maida Withers, and Emily Wolfe. Following the performance, Director Ilana Silverstein will introduce the Fieldwork feedback method to the audience and invite audience members to participate in Fieldwork along with the artists. The evening will conclude with a celebratory dance party for anyone who would like to strut their stuff on the dance floor. Anyone interested in seeing Fieldwork in action should attend.

This Fall, artists of all styles/genres/forms are welcome to participate in Fieldwork for Mixed Disciplines, an 11-week opportunity for artists to show work to their peers and exchange feedback. Fieldwork supports the development of new work without the pressures of producing a finished product all alone. The Fieldwork feedback method creates a safe space for the artist to take risks and leaves room to fail. Artists are drawn to Fieldwork because of the built in weekly deadline and the structure that it provides for the creative process. Since the workshop brings together artists of all disciplines, participants learn how their work is reading from many different perspectives and develop the language for discussing work across all artistic genres. It is a profound experience for everyone. If you love an artist, come do Fieldwork so that you have a response for your friend when she says, “What did you think of my show?”

Since 1994, The Field/DC has offered Fieldwork for Mixed Disciplines workshops for the greater D.C. metro area. The Field/DC is part of an international network of independent
performing artists. The Field/New York City was founded in1986 by artists for artists. Fieldwork is not adjudicated. Feedback is led by a trained facilitator. www.thefield.org

Fall Fieldwork will be facilitated by Susan Oetgen, a performing artist, educator and facilitator active in Brooklyn, NY and Washington, DC. An opera singer by training, she combines text, music, movement, video and visual art in solo and collaborative performance projects. From 2003-2011, she performed and recorded original songs and music theater with her band, Likeness to Lily. She has also performed in works by Cynthia Hopkins, Howard Fishman, Margot Bassett, Ben Spatz and Dan Burkholder. As part of her creative practice, Susan designs/facilitates workshops on conflict resolution and the performing arts for adults, and teaching artist residencies for general and special education students. www.susanoetgen.com
